After I put the car into park, I did the requisite head plop against the back of my seat and then started looking for my license. Another day, another speeding ticket. If you are counting, as I am, my second ever, both tickets garnered within three miles of each other though several years apart. My first thought was, “Why me?” Actually, that was my second or third thought. The first thought was an expletive and my next thought was, “Stupid, stupid, stupid, you know there’s a speed trap here!” And then, “Why me? I mean, I’m not a bad driver.”
Does anyone ever start a story about a speeding ticket or an accident with “I am a bad driver and..."? I didn't think so. There are a lot of mediocre and bad drivers out there, but most people don’t acknowledge that their skill set may be lacking. Could I possibly fall into that category? Then again, starting a story with, “Acknowledging that I am a so-so driver, I was still surprised/annoyed/shocked when _______ occurred” is anticlimactic before it even gets started. I decided I needed to do a little self-reflection. Here goes -- As A Good Driver:
As A Bad Driver:
